My Little Box | January 2017

It's always a good day when I get post at work. I either find the parcel in the big office post box, or I come back to my desk and it's there waiting for me. I love subscription boxes because it's basically a surprise gift to myself every month. This month's My Little Box was a bit of a mixed bag (literally, since this month it came in a bag rather than a box). I loved a few of the bits I received, but there was at least one thing that was just a bit pants.

Scarf
Before Christmas I owned a grand total of one scarf. I never really saw the point in them until recently; when I was younger I never seemed to feel the cold and often eschewed coats, scarves and all things snuggly. In my old age the cold seems to have finally figured out how to get to me and I'm finding myself embracing big woolly jumpers, brightly coloured coats and, of course, scarves. 2016 seemed to be determined to throw as many scarves at me as possible. My Little Box was apparently on board with Project Scarves for Bethany, as the January box included this gorgeous navy infinity scarf. I've been wearing it with my orangey-red coat since navy and red always look great, and it has been keeping me nice and warm in this icy weather.

Planner
I am a firm believer that you can never have too many notebooks, and a well structured planner which inspires me to keep organised is right up there for me. This is a fab little planner, and since I already have a diary for 2017, I really appreciate that it's undated, meaning I can use it whenever I like. I also love the little sections and different ways of structuring your day and to do lists, as I like to regularly change up how I keep track of everything so that I don't get bored.

Hand Cream
Much like notebooks, one can never have too much hand cream. During the winter months I'm in a constant cycle of hand cream application, and since one of my faves, the Nuxe Rêve de Miel (which I also got from a beauty box, as it happens) is almost empty, leaving me desperately trying to squeeze out the last drops of moisturising goodness this will be a welcome addition to the hand cream ranks.

Body Cream
I'm not really one for body creams. I'll slap a bit on my elbows or knees if they're feeling a bit dry, but generally I find them a bit redundant. I think I'll probably pass this on to a better home.

Merci Handy Toothpaste
I swear the MLB team has cameras in my flat. Just as I was running out of toothpaste they send me a new tube, much like with the hand cream. However, it's a pretty random thing to receive in a subscription box, and while it's come in handy this time, generally I would be pretty unimpressed to receive this. Subscription boxes are like a present to myself, and toothpaste is a pretty piss-poor present.

Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures
I love samples as much as the next person, but come on. The size of this thing renders it useless; I have thick, fairly long hair that will absorb this stuff in thirty seconds flat before I even get chance to get round the back. If you're going to include something in a box you should at least provide enough to have a proper go of it, rather than not enough product for a chinchilla.

Notecards
This month's MLB also included some inspirational notecards, reminding you to look after yourself and setting tasks to encourage you to treat yourself and practice self care. These were sweet, thoughtful and went straight in the bin.

Overall, I wasn't as impressed with the January My Little Box as the December edition. While I like the scarf and planner, everything else was a bit of a let down. I did like the theme of a Fresh Start, which I guess was the thinking behind the toothpaste, but seriously - toothpaste?!

Stalk me!
